Again, some of you may have seen this before — well, we decided that it should be up here too. The tracks, in case you are wondering are:

  1. Charlie Hunter Trio, “Fred’s Life”, from the album Charlie Hunter Trio
  2. Andrew Y.K., “We Want Fun”, from the EP AWKGOJ (Girls Own Juice)

Enjoy!

P.S. You know what’s going up next, don’t you? We’ll give you a hint: WOOF.

Some of you may have seen this before — well, we decided that it should be up here too. Especially because stupid Universal Music Group, who owns the rights to this song, decided it was a copyright violation and made Facebook pull it down.

We love Bobby Byrd and all, and yes, we want him to get paid for his tune (“I Know You Got Soul” on James Brown’s Funky People, Pt. 2, courtesy UMG), but still, it’s not like we were making money off it. If anything, we feel we were exposing it to more people who might then go out and buy it. Ah well. C’est la vie.

Enjoy!

(Oh, If you really like these highlight vids, be sure to let Henrik know, and he might just bring the camera out and do more this upcoming season!)

Ever wonder what the benefits of being a captain are? Here’s one: Captain’s Dinner!

This year’s feast was once again a fabulous success and great time! We for sure lived up to our reputation at Buca. This time when we called to make reservations, the schedule woman said, “Ohh, we know who you guys are.”

Yikes.

Of course, we’re too smart to fall for the ol’ “raisin wine” gag again (that’s another story entirely, but one we love to tell), but we still love a mean lap dance! It started a few years ago with Gretchen and some strange, random Italian dude. Scandalous. Last year Batch got one.

So why do I mention these lap dances? Well, just ’cause we hope you enjoy these pics! And to warn you there just might be more….

Hope everyone had fun at the party last night!  As I sit here writing this, I am asking myself three questions:

  1. How many drink tickets did I hand out last night to you nutters?
  2. Holy bejesus, why am I awake right now?
  3. And how the hell did these rubber turf turds get in my bed?

Whatever. Here’s the word for today’s games. Most of your fearless (note how I said “fearless” but not “sober”) captains gathered last night to discuss a contingency plan should the rain be craptastic. The B Bracket captains voted overwhelmingly to play if the rain was not bad — a light-to-medium sprinkling, for example — and even more overwhelmingly to call off games if the rain was really coming down. It was decided that I’d wake up early, see how hard it was raining, and make the call. I’d text B Bracket captains who would then spread the word like wildfire to you, our wonderful and equally as unsober players.

Well, I’m up, and it’s raining pretty solidly. So the executive call has been made: B BRACKET GAMES ARE OFF!!!

Sad, I know. Yes, Blame Game, dry those tears. HEY! Rubes, I see you dancing over there! Come on dude, at least TRY to show some remorse, huh?

However, at that same meeting, the A Bracket captains voted to play no matter what the weather was like. Sprinkle? Play. Pouring? Play. Hurricane Frodo? Play. So we are! And here is the A Bracket Sunday Schedule:

New Sunday Schedule - A Bracket Only

New Sunday Schedule - A Bracket Only

Before I sign off, a mighty, heartfelt thanks to all you A Bracket captains who are making me come and hang out in the rain for no better reason than your frighteningly overdeveloped sense of competition and the empassioned desire to lay out and slide like 30 feet on wet turf.

Hmm, on second thought, that sliding thing actually sounds like fun! Put me in, Coach!

And we’ll see y’all out there….

Hey people, here are the standings after today’s games:

Results from games on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009

Results from games on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009

And here is the schedule for Sunday:

Schedule for Sunday, March 1.

Schedule for Sunday, March 1.

We should have these up at the party as well, but you can see for yourself here right now!

Hey peeps! So here’s the word on Saturday games and the schedule. First, the Pools:

Pool A Pool B Pool C Pool D
Moral Hazard VRW Conspiracy Dirty Tricksters Attack Poodles
Old Boys Network Grassroots Pork Barrel Projects Foreign Oil
Joe Six Pack Crony Capitalists Community Organizers Pajamahadeen
Blame Game Mavericks Armchair Revolutionaries Mudslingers

Pools A & B are playing in the morning at 9:00AM. Pools C & D play in the afternoon at 1:30PM.

REMEMBER WE ARE OUT AT CROCKER AMAZON ALL WEEKEND!!

A caveat: This is not Ultimate time, people! Especially for the morning groups. The field guy told me last night that the weekends can be a HUGE pain with annoying soccer players and other people trying to poach and not leave our fields. So we need to be out en force ON TIME and keep to a tight schedule. There are 15 minutes built in between 1 hour and 15 minute rounds.

Yes, I will cap yo’ asses if need be. I’m just sayin.

So Saturday is Pool play. The top 8 teams advance to the Championship (A) Bracket on Sunday. The bottom 8 advance to the Beer (B) Bracket. The B Bracket will start things off on Sunday at 10AM. The A Bracket will start up at 11:30AM. The Saturday standings will be posted at the party so you know which bracket you are in (though I expect you will kind of know).

Complete game schedules will be posted when I get a chance later. I am at work, you know, and every minute I spend with you is a minute I am ignoring the rivers of wine and Cristal, dancing women and sweet beluga caviar that my company bought for us using taxpayer TARP money. I mean I love you guys, but come on.

A couple of other things:

  • Ultimate Peace. Some of my dear friends — and yours too — are organizing and participating in Ultimate Peace, an organization that seeks “to build bridges of friendship, understanding and fun for youth from different social and cultural backgrounds around the world” through Ultimate. Awesome. From April 1-5, 2009, they will kick off their very first and head to the Middle East — Tel Aviv, to be exact.

Bottom line: They would love your support! Please check out their website and find out what they’re all aboot (said in a Canadian accent) and how you can help! There will also be some materials at the party for you to take and read and pass on! Help out and bring peace through Ulti!

  • Drink Tickets. Speaking of the party, all SFUC players will receive a drink ticket worth $4 to get you started. If you wanna go top shelf, you can drop an extra dollar or two onto the ticket. If you’re really nice to the Commissioner (aka “the keeper of the drink tickets”), he might — just might — give you more.

Oh, and the folks at Thee Parkside LOVE us. And we love them. We’d like to foster a great relationship with them so we can keep having the party here and make it an annual thing. That said, be nice and TIP YO’ BARTENDERS!!! Spread the word, will ya? Sweet, thanks!

  • Password. There will be a doorperson at the door. Lots of times they are big dudes. I dunno. In any case, he has a roster of teams. If you are on a team, tell him your name and your team. If you’re not on a team (meaning your sig-ots and friends are welcome!), give him a little “Ultimate” or “SFUC” or even “San Francisco Ultimate Club” action, and you’re in.

One of you — and you know who you are — is on the roster as “Woody Johnson.” Haha! Okay, no not really, but who can pass up a chance to say “Woody Johnson”?

  • Tuneage. Your phenomenal DJ will be DJ Dave Byron. Treat him right and get your groove on! Boo, I can’t guarantee he’ll have any Backstreet Boys cued up for you, but I have forewarned him of your…er…obsession. There will also be some acoustic music in the back, starring your pals Jonathan Kirchner and Charles “Work You” Kindred and friends. They’re kinda good. Just accept it before it destroys you.

Well, I think that’s about it for now. They’re tossing confetti and our CEO is doing kegstands over here now. Ooh, look! It’s Michael Phelps with a bong! I’m off to join the fun. Thanks, TARP! Thanks, America!

Well, here you go…end of the regular season standings!
